BLOWING ROCK, N.C. – As temperatures drop in the mountains, one Blowing Rock ski resort is preparing to open during the COVID-19 age.

What You Need To Know

  • Appalachian Ski Mountain has been making lots of changes to keep customers safe during the COVID age

  • People are now required make a reservation before coming to ski

  • Masks are required at all times, aside from when you are skiing

Appalachian Ski Mountain President Brad Moretz says the snow guns are ready. They are just waiting for a few days straight of cold temperatures to get them turned on.

That does not mean that workers aren't busy getting ready. They have made many changes. App Ski is now asking everyone to make a reservation before coming so they can reduce capacity. A point of sale system has also been installed so staff does not have as much contact with guests.

They will also be asking everyone to wear a mask when indoors, in line, or in a ski lift.

Plexiglass is going up to section off areas where people will be waiting, as well as stickers on the ground. Moretz says they have had months to come up with a plan to keep everyone safe.

"We have added another ticket cashier and our rental stations have been spaced out so people are six feet apart there. Everything in our restaurant will be distanced, we added outside seating, so we now have outside seating for 400 people to be able to spread out our dining, and every aspect of our operation has been changed to create the best and safest experience possible," says Moretz.

Moretz says due to a limited number of reservations, it is important to book your ticket early.
