BOONE, N.C. – The Hospitality House in Boone is working to help as many as possible despite the emergency winter shelter not opening just yet. Temperatures have been dropping in Boone, and more people have been coming in for help.

What You Need To Know

  • Dropping temperatures and COVID evictions have more people heading to the Hospitality House for help

  • The emergency winter shelter does not open until November 1

  • The shelter has not been turning families away but has had to hand out blankets to anyone they do not have room for at this time

  • They are in need of more blankets to help those living outdoors

Due to COVID-19, the space is limited, but the shelter has not been turning families away. Currently, it has been setting up families in offices and the cafeteria because it is unsafe to be outdoors.

The Hospitality House says it is in need of warm towels and blankets to help out until the emergency shelter opens.

"We're pretty low on blankets. Over the weekend we went through what we had left so what we get over the weekend has left our stock extremely low, so that's something we could definitely use," Hospitality House Executive Director Tina Krause says.

It is expected to open the emergency winter shelter on November 1. Although that could change due to the weather.

If you would like to donate blankets to help anyone staying outdoors, you can drop them off at the Hospitality House.
