CONNELLY SPRINGS, N.C. -- A daycare in Burke County is back open after shutting down due to COVID-19.

First Baptist Icard in Connelly Springs closed its doors after learning of a positive case. It was later learned that 10 staff members and two children came up positive.

The lead pastor says they felt it was best to close down and allow everyone to quarantine.

The daycare opened back up Tuesday, and children headed on in. Staff could be seen scrubbing down everything that could be touched throughout the day over and over.

Lead Pastor, Michael Pardue says they are taking all precautions to keep everyone safe.

"Make sure that our staff are wearing masks. We are cleaning on a regular basis to make sure surfaces are clean. We are continuing to check in our children at the entrance where we take their temperature, not have parents in the classroom so the numbers are limited. We are keeping our kids separated by classroom," Pardue says.

Pardue says he takes shutting down very seriously and only does so when absolutely necessary. He is prepared to shut down again if more cases arise, but they are working hard to keep that from happening.
