CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Parents looking for another option to home remote learning are flocking to the YMCA.

The YMCA's School Day Plus program allows parents to drop off their kids where staff members assist students and make sure they attend class remotely.

Students are given health screenings and a temperature check and are expected to have their class schedule and Google Chromebook.

The YMCA of Greater Charlotte says more than 800 kids are registered, and most branches have wait lists.

The program is something the YMCA never had before COVID-19.

"Every day is a learning moment. One thing that we say is flexibility and patient. Everybody is learning, from the parents to the staff, the kids,” YMCA of Greater Charlotte Family Service Coordinator Asa Williams says.

The YMCA of Greater Charlotte says it's in the process of trying to add additional locations for its school program.
