CHARLOTTE, NC - For one Charlotte man, his clothing brand isn’t just his business, it’s a way to give back to the community.

What You Need To Know

  • JD Harris, the founder of Glory Days Apparel, is raising money to help fund childhood cancer research

  • The "Save It or Shave It" campaign allows people to vote on if Harris should keep or shave his mullet

  • All of the money raised will go towards the Jeff Gordon Children's Foundation
  • Harris has also helped several other local charities in the past, including Habitat for Humanity and CLT Strong

JD Harris is known for his funky shirt designs at his company Glory Days Apparel. But in recent months he’s also become known for his funky hairstyle.

“I just started growing a mullet for fun, just to see how it’d go,” Harris says.

The mullet later became part of his latest charity project. Harris created the “Save It or Shave It” campaign, where people can vote on whether or not he should shave his mullet. With each vote, money is donated to the Jeff Gordon Children’s Foundation which helps raise money for childhood cancer research.

“I’m always trying to get involved and help our community and not just like write a check and hand that over,” Harris says.

This isn’t Harris’ first time using his creativity to help others.

After Scott Brooks was murdered last year, Harris created the “Too Blessed To Be Stressed” shirt, with proceeds benefiting Habitat for Humanity.

During the coronavirus pandemic, he also made the “Charlotte Strong” shirt to help feed hospital workers, and he also created a calendar, with proceeds from the sales helping those in the restaurant industry who are now out of a job.

“Sometimes you get so busy and wrapped up in what you’re doing, with the brand and getting the store ready, then you have those moments where it all kind of comes to light and you’re like this is why we do these ends of things.”

Voting in the “Save It or Shave It” campaign ends August 15. You can vote on the Glory Days website or on the Jeff Gordon Children’s Foundation website.
