ASHEVILLE, N.C. -- Asheville becomes the first city in the Tar Heel state to offer reparations to African-Americans.

City officials apologized for slavery in the past and ongoing discrimination such as food and childcare deserts and housing denials.

City leaders passed a resolution committing to investments where Black residents face disparities. Some of the areas identified include increasing minority homeownership and business ownership.

The resolution also creates a community reparation commission to help identify where the resources can be used.
