GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Greensboro Fire Department had an outbreak of COVID-19 cases over the last few weeks.
Greensboro Fire Chief Bobby Nugent says an uptick in COVID-19 cases happened after several firefighters went on an annual, non-work related golf trip the first week of June.
Nugent explains his firefighters started feeling symptoms when they got back from the trip, so they immediately got tested.
He says nine people tested positive, 45 people who were tested were sent home to quarantine, and 100 other people were self-monitoring.
“By all the work that we had done early on, we were able to manage our personnel and our staffing sufficient enough and it never ran short we had plenty of staff,” emphasizes Nugent.
He says the last few firefighters who were impacted by the outbreak will report back to work Tuesday.
