CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Charlotte film community is losing one of its signature venues as the city's oldest movie theater, Regal Manor Twin, announced on Wednesday that it will not be reopening after the COVID-19 pandemic.

Manor Twin marked the final arthouse theater, specializing in screening foreign and independent pictures, left in the city after the closing of Park Terrace at the Park Road Shopping Center in 2017 and the closing of Regal Ballantyne Village earlier this year.

"We truly appreciate the loyal patronage at the Manor Twin and our partnership with Eastern Federal over the years. Our staff worked hard to provide a quality entertainment venue serving Charlotte moviegoers with art and independent film," stated Richard Grover, VP of Communications at Regal. "With the closing of this location, we will continue to offer art and independent film at our other Regal theatres in the Charlotte area."

Organizations like the Charlotte Film Society and businesses, such as local video store VisArt Video, took to social media to express their sadness at the theater's closing, considering its importance to the local film community.
