SALISBURY, N.C. – Seventeen people have died related to COVID-19 at The Citadel nursing home in Salisbury and now the facility faces a second lawsuit.

A lawsuit was filed this week against The Citadel's parent company Accordius Health.

The allegations, from a number of people, are laid out in the complaint. They include everything from claims that employees were told to remove masks because they would result in "mask fear” to allowing symptomatic employees with pending COVID-19 tests to return to work.

"I felt like we needed to file something to hopefully get the court to put this facility under a magnifying glass to make sure the rules and the regulations and laws are being complied with," attorney Mona Lisa Wallace says.

Spectrum News reached out to Accordius Health and despite following up, a spokesperson says the company hadn't seen the complaint.

It did, however, release a statement which said in part, “it is unfortunate that there has been so much misinformation put out by a source clearly not familiar with the facts of what has been going inside this building...We have been doing everything we can in lockstep with the CDC guidelines, the local Department of Health, and local hospitals, and have been working around the clock to protect the safety of our residents and the staff during this unprecedented, worldwide pandemic.”
