NORTH CAROLINA – Even though many people across our state are in isolation, it’s a great time to fill up your car. Gas prices are down nearly half a dollar since the same time last year. That even amidst a downward stock market turn caused in part by a global viral pandemic.

- Areas in the mountains generally have higher prices, while the Greensboro area is usually lowest
- According to the website Gas Buddy, the lowest price in the state right now is $1.35 in Troutman
According to AAA, the state average is $1.93 per gallon. The national average is $2.10.
The lowest price for a gallon of gas on average in North Carolina is in Lincoln County at $1.66, and the highest is in Dare County at $2.18. Metro areas of Raleigh and Charlotte are mainly in line with the state average.
Areas in the mountains generally have higher prices, while the Greensboro area is usually lowest.
However, prices at warehouse clubs in the Greensboro area are even lower than the state average.
AAA does not account for membership stores like Costco and Sam’s Club.
According to the website Gas Buddy, the lowest price in the state right now is $1.35 in Troutman. That’s about halfway between Charlotte and Winston-Salem.
It’s crucial during this COVID-19 outbreak to wash your hands after you fill up your gas tank. The virus can live on surfaces, including gas pumps for hours and even days.
