CHARLOTTE, N.C. — American Airlines' expansion continues at Charlotte Douglas International Airport.
The airline opened four new gates at the airport Tuesday morning in a ribbon-cutting ceremony. The new gates are on the A concourse and will add to American's goal of having more than 700 daily departures from Charlotte and making it the second largest and second biggest North American hub, behind only Dallas-Fort Worth.
“We work very closely with American Airlines. American handles over 90 percent of the passengers here at Charlotte, so they are a primary partner and their success and our success go hand-in-hand,” Aviation Director Brent Cagle said.
The A concourse and new gates are part of the ongoing multi-billion dollar renovation and improvement project at the airport that is set to continue through 2025.
