CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Emergency Operations Center and American Red Cross say they will begin opening emergency shelters around 6 p.m. Thursday, February 6.

Officials say two shelter locations will be opening, one in Matthews and the other in Charlotte, due to the severe weather and damages experienced throughout the area.

Shelter locations include:

Naomi Drenan Recreational Center

750 Beal Street

Charlotte, N.C.

Crews Recreation Center

1201 Crews Road

Matthews, N.C.

The American Red Cross says two additional shelters are currently open. Those include locations at Catawba Valley Community College in Hickory and Second Baptist Church in Rutherfordton.
