SHELBY, N.C. — Following the arrest of a man accused of exchanging inappropriate messages with a minor, parents in Cleveland County are being warned to check their child's cell phone messages.

According to the Cleveland County Sheriff's Office, Daniel Joseph Dyer, 27, is charged with one count of indecent liberities with a child. An investigation into Dyer began after the victim's parent reported finding inappropriate messages on the Grindr and SnapChat apps on the child's phone.

Investigators say Dyer was employed as a math teacher at Cleveland Early College and was a part time employee at the Kings Mountain YMCA. Dyer was also a youth leader at Kings Mountain Baptist Church, officials say.

The sheriff's office is warning any parent who believes their child may have come in contact with Dyer to check their cell phones for inappropriate messages. Officials have also provided a list of potentially dangerous apps for children to have, which can be found on the Cleveland County Sheriff's Office Facebook page.
