CHARLOTTE, N.C – There are new developments in the controversial plan to cut down on overcrowding at a Charlotte-Mecklenburg elementary school.

  • There is an overcrowding issue at one school
  • CMS wants to move about 175 students from Elizabeth Lane Elementary School to Lansdowne Elementary School
  • More public hearings will be held in February and April

CMS wants to move about 175 students from Elizabeth Lane Elementary School to Lansdowne Elementary School to ease overcrowding. It’s a big concern for parents in the Beverly Crest neighborhood at Providence and Pineville-Matthews roads.

School officials say it wants to deliver 45 classrooms to Lansdowne in August of 2021 since Elizabeth Lane can’t expand. The president of the Beverly Crest Homeowners Association says there are other ways to do that and that it’s important to keep their neighborhood together.

“Beverly Crest is a micro-community, and that part of the apartments is part of our community, part of the fabric that makes up Beverly Crest. So, I to ask you to consider that because the orange scenario is the one that better keeps Beverly Crest together,” HOAPresident John Miller said.

More public hearings will be held in February and April. The board could vote on the plan in May.
