CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Cars are becoming a safe haven for people without homes as a Charlotte car dealership is offering a place to park on the property.

James Charles is the manager at Kiplin Automotive off Brookshire Boulevard. He says he's been in a similar situation and wants to provide a solution.

In addition to the free parking, his lot offers security cameras and bright lights.

“I know what we can do right now. We have tons of space and we know people are doing it. We know for a fact that people are living in their cars temporarily,” he said.

Charles says he wants to help families long term, and get them out of unsafe situations.
