CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The American Girl Doll of 2020 was unveiled last week at South Park Mall's American Girl store in Charlotte.
- The doll's name is Joss, a surfer, a cheerleader, and someone who happens to be deaf
- The unveiling of the doll was accompanied by a presentation by Hope Turpin
- Hope is also deaf and owns Signs of Hope, a sign language school in Charlotte

She said normalizing a hearing aid and encouraging people to learn sign language can go a long way in helping members of the deaf community feel accepted.
Kids can also learn more about Joss on the American Girl Doll website. There's a web series that follows her adventures, while teaching children about communicating with someone who is deaf or hearing impaired.
