LEE COUNTY, N.C. -- Officials say the FAA and NTSB will be not be investigating after a plane crashed in Lee County on Monday while taxing around the airport.
- Plane never left the ground and had no intent to fly
- Plane lost control and hit a "couple" of other grounded planes
- Pilot jumped out before the plane caught fire
The accident happened on a runway near Rod Sullivan Road at the Raleigh Executive Airport in Sanford.
Officials with the airport say the plane lost control while maneuvering on the ground and hit a "couple" of other planes.
The pilot reportedly jumped out of the single engine plane before it caught fire and was not injured. The pilot was shaken up however, and transported to a nearby hospital as a precaution.
Since the plane had no intent to fly, officials say the FAA and NTSB will not be investigating the incident.
The North Carolina State Highway Patrol is "handling" the scene, but, again, no investigation is taking place at this time.
