MINT HILL, N.C. - Hundreds came out to Mint Hill Saturday to show their respects for Brooks' Sandwich House co-owner, Scott Brooks.

  • "I will never forget him." Community gathers to pay their last respects to Scott Brooks
  • Brooks, co-owner of Brooks' Sandwich House in NoDa, died after being shot during an early morning robbery
  • Graveside service is scheduled for Sunday at 2 p.m.

"I will never forget him," Idlewild Baptist Church member, Robert Giles said. "He was one of a kind. You don’t see a whole lot of people like him."

"He was just good," said another Idlewild Baptist Church member, Warren Simpson. "The definition of good was his picture."

Both Simpson and Giles attended Idlewild Baptist Church with Scott Brooks. They were one of hundreds to fill the parking lot Saturday afternoon for Brooks’ funeral.

"I know where he is at, he is with his lord," Giles said. "He is probably standing beside his dad and his mom."

Scott Brooks is survived by his wife, Angela and son, Jacob. He co-owned Brooks’ Sandwich House in NoDa with his twin brother, David. It was at this shop that police say Brooks was killed during a robbery.

"I know it has been hard on his brother," Simpson said.

It's been tough on not just his brother, but a whole community of people that knew him and loved him.

"For his family, they are in my prayers," Simpson said. "I have prayed for them ever since it happened, and I will continue to pray for Angie and David and the rest of the family."

"They’re hurting, but we got to embrace them and love them and walk in faith together," Giles said. "They will see him again, one day soon. I know we will."

A graveside service will take place at 2 p.m. Sunday at Sunset Memory Gardens on Lawyers Road, in Mint Hill.
