CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police have charged a suspect in connection to a shooting inside an East Charlotte bar overnight Wednesday.

  • Transported with life-threatening injuries
  • Timothy Williams is charged with attempted first degree murder

Timothy Lavar Williams, 39, was arrested Friday and charged with attempted first degree murder.

Police say Williams was treated for a non-life threatening gunshot wound prior to his arrest. He reportedly got the wound before he had any interaction with police.

Williams is charged in connection to the shooting that happened around 2 a.m. on December 11 inside Smokey Joe's Cafe on the corner of Briar Creek Road and Monroe Road. Police say one man was transported to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Investigators say the victim and Williams had gotten into a physical altercation inside the bar, which escalated into shots being fired. Williams reportedly left the scene before officers could arrive.

CMPD has not indicated whether the victim and suspect knew one another prior to the incident.
