CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- A Charlotte woman is now the oldest living woman in the United States.

Hester Ford takes over the title after her fellow North Carolinian Alelia Murphy passed away this week. Murphy lived in New York's Harlem neighborhood since 1926.

We introduced you to Ford as she celebrated turning 114 last year. Born in Lancaster, South Carolina, she later moved to Charlotte and has been living in the same home for nearly 60 years. In addition to her 12 children, she has 48 grandchildren, 108 great-grandchildren, and approximately 120 great-great-grandchildren.

Earlier this year, Charlotte Mayor Vi Lyles declared August 15 as Mother Hester Ford Day.
