Wake County commissioners have approved a $1 million grant for the expansion of a Healing Transitions women’s recovery center.
This will allow the women’s campus to add 90 extra beds on top of the 120 already there. They will also be able to expand the laundry, bathing, and dining services.
While overcrowding can be an issue, the center does not turn anyone away.
Executive Director Chris Budnick says, "We've got a shelter here that we are in and then we have two separate classrooms where we put down mats to accommodate people and it's just out of this need to serve folks who are really some of the most vulnerable in our community."
Expansion of the center is set to begin within six to nine months.
