CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Temperatures are about to drop in Charlotte to below freezing.
- Temperature will drops below 32 degrees soon
- The Salvation Army, Urban Ministry Center, and the Men's Shelter are all adding more beds for this weekend
- The goal is to put more mats down to try and get as many people off the street as possible
Most people have a warm place to go to escape the cold, but others are fighting to survive the elements.
Homeless shelters around the city open their doors to more people when the temperature drops below 32 degrees. The goal is to put more mats down to try and get as many people off the street as possible.
There are some, however, who choose to stay outside because they don't like staying in a shelter.
Colby Williams has been homeless for four years and says he has a method to stay warm on freezing nights.
"If you've got a tent, your tent also holds heat. I wrap tarps around mine, like an Igloo, and it holds the heat in," he said. "Once you get in there, it holds the body heat, and it'll actually be 20-25 degrees warmer in the tent than it is outside."
The Salvation Army, Urban Ministry Center, and the Men's Shelter are all adding more beds for people this weekend to help them escape the cold.
