In the mayor’s race, incumbent Democratic nominee Vi Lyles defeated Republican nominee David Rice with 77.5% of the vote. This makes Lyles the first mayor to win reelection in Charlotte since Democrat Anthony Foxx in 2011.

Charlotte has not had a Republican mayor since Pat McCrory held the position for more than a decade between 1995 and 2009.
