CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- There are big changes along the Freedom Drive corridor in west Charlotte.

This month Hornets Owner Michael Jordan opened a Novant clinic. Other medical facilities are in development, more housing is coming and, new restaurants have become a common sight.

As growth continues to overtake uptown and the south end, it's spilling into new places.

“It still has a ways to go I think but I think this is the first step to finally putting our rep back to where it needs to be,” said Beauregards Owner, Maria Labrakis.

“We wouldn't be able to afford a lease somewhere in Dilworth or SouthPark but over here we were able to secure a lease that was affordable,” said CupLux Co-Owner Ian Kolb who opened his business in 2017.

One of the concerns is whether some of the older business can compete with the newer ones but Labrikis said she's not worried and thinks competition is a good thing.
