WAKE COUNTY, N.C. -- A kidnapping suspect is dead and their victim is safe after a chase and manhunt led to four schools closing and US-64 being closed for hours Tuesday morning.
- At least one lane of US-64/I-87 EB is closed near US-264.
- A police chase may have ended in shots being fired near East Wake Academy.
- East Wake Academy, Zebulon Elementary and Middle Schools, and Wakelon Elementary are closed Tuesday.
Accordng to Raleigh Police, at around 4:30 Tuesday morning RPD officers attempted to perform a traffic stop on a vehicle reportedly involved in a kidnapping. The driver of the vehicle fled and officers initiated a pursuit.
A short time later, the driver came to a stop on I-87 near East Wake Academy at exit 436 and jumped and ran.
The victim was later located deceased.
It is unclear at this time who shot them, but the SBI has stepped in to investigate.
East Wake Academy, Zebulon Elementary and Zebulon Middle Schools, and Wakelon Elementary School were all closed Tuesday due to their vicinity to the police activity.
The affected area is on I-87/US-64 near US-264 in the vicinity of East Wake Academy.
