NORTH CAROLINA -- As Hurricane Dorian slowly makes its way to the Carolinas coast, Duke Energy reports resources from 23 states as well as Canada are standing by to assist.

- Storm impacting Charleston Thursday morning
The company said it expects the powerful storm to cause roughly 700,000 power outages as Dorian brings hurricane and tropical-storm force winds to the coastal, Pee Dee and Triangle regions of the Carolinas.
Crews will begin responding to outages as soon as it’s safe to do so, the company said.

By Wednesday night into early Thursday morning, the Charleston Police Department was reporting downed power lines and road closures due to flooding.
