RALEIGH, N.C. -- Dozens of moms are gathering to demand action, calling it a "recess rally."

  • Several people discussed recent shootings in the United States
  • The group wants politicians to change the gun laws
  • One student says she's scared to go to her school and hopes rallies like this one will make a change

They're asking for congressmen and senators to come back from their recess to change gun laws. Moms Demand Action is a national group that has been fighting for gun laws for years.

Several organizers at the event got up to speak in front of the crowd to discuss shootings in America. One of the youngest at the rally was high school rising senior Leah Krevat. She says she's scared to go to her school in Apex and hopes rallies like this will make a change.

"I feel it's so important for students' voices to be heard and have a students say. We don't have to worry about a gunman coming in and killing us or hurting us," said Krevat.

Rep. Allison Dahle was speaking as a gun owner at the event. She says she's speaking to show that not all gun owners aren't to be trusted.

She's hoping more gun laws will ensure more responsible gun ownership.
