A black truck crashed into Wooten's motorcycle. It's unknown if the trooper had his lights activated when he crossed the intersection on a red light.

According to a Facebook post from the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, Wooten's condition has steadily improved. As of July 23, Trooper Wooten has been displaying responses when spoken to by his family. Still, his recovery will likely take some time.

The man the trooper was initially pursuing took off, and now police are looking for him. The vehicle of interest, a late 1990s model Toyota Avalon, is posted below. The person driving is said to be a Black male who was wearing prescription glasses.

Those with any information are asked to call Crime Stoppers.

A GoFundMe has been set up for Trooper Wooten's recovery.
