The number one safest city on the list was Holly Springs and Elon showed up in the number two spot.
Safewise takes two different measurements into consideration when ranking the 20 Safest Cities.
The first factor they take into account is the 2016 FBI Crime Reports and Population data, which is based on the number of reported violent crimes like aggravated assault and murder per 1,000 people in each city.
In some cases, they also took the number of property crimes into consideration.
The process is meant to make it easier to compare cities with very different populations.
Other cities on the list include Apex, Cary, Mint Hill, Concord, and Knightdale. View the full list here.
