Mecklenburg County leaders say the flooding last month caused more than $3million dollars in damage to homes in the area.
More than 40 homes were flooded, and some homeowners are still staying in campers or tents in their front yards.
Cooper talked to residents about the devastation, and promised to help.
"I'm going to go back to our emergency management and tell them what I’ve learned today and ask them to see and explore all kinds of avenues to help people", said Gov. Roy Cooper.
On July 3, Cooper signed a state disaster declaration that offers assistance to people living in ten counties affected by the floods.
