MECKLENBURG COUNTY, N.C. -- The Mecklenburg County Republican Party is suing the County Commission for violating North Carolina’s open meetings law.

  • Mecklenburg County Republican Party Chairman Chris Turner announced a lawsuit against the County Commission of the same county Tuesday
  • The lawsuit alleges the County Commission violated the state’s open meetings law
  • A hearing is scheduled for Monday, July 8

Party Chairman Chris Turner announced the lawsuit, which includes a temporary restraining order, Tuesday.

According to the lawsuit, the budget the County Commission passed with a seven to two vote Tuesday night is in violation of the state’s open meetings law. The law requires official meetings of public bodies, such as the county commission, be open to the public.

In a statement Turner released he said the open meetings law violations the County Commission made must be addressed.

The court has scheduled a hearing for Monday, July 8.
