CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- A busy intersection is still after a water main break, which is bad news for anyone who usually travels along Morehead Street and Freedom Drive. Crews say it's going to be closed for up to 48 hours.

  • A water main break is still impacting a busy intersection
  • It happened Sunday around 5 p.m.
  • The water should be back to homes in the area, but the daily commutes will still be affected.

Charlotte Water and Charlotte Mecklenburg Police shut down the intersection Sunday to repair the line. People who live in the neighborhood and the Charlotte airport had issues with water pressure after it happened around 5 p.m.

Charlotte Water says most or all customers should be back to normal soon, but rebuilding the road could take several days. The water should be back to homes in the area, but the daily commutes will still be affected.

This intersection has been blocked off and will be monitored but after severe storms this weekend there could be other spots with high water. Remember the saying "turn around don't drown" and find a different route. Do not try to drive through standing water.
