CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Thousands of CMS seniors will receive their diplomas this week. But as the class of 2019 graduates, students face challenges their parents didn't, and some of them involve money.

  • In a USA Today poll on Twitter, 45 percent of participants said cost was the number one consideration when choosing secondary education after high school.
  • UNC Charlotte Director of Admissions Claire Kirby said she has seen the impact.
  • More families try and bargain with admissions offices to see if there is more scholarship money.

In a USA Today poll on Twitter, 45 percent of participants said cost was the number one consideration when choosing secondary education after high school.

UNC Charlotte Director of Admissions Claire Kirby said she has seen the impact.

Kirby said more families try and bargain with admissions offices to see if there is more scholarship money. Another impact is some students consider community college.

While Central Piedmont Community College said general admission is flat, more high-school aged students are taking classes.
