CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- It's official! Shake Shack will be opening its third Charlotte location in the popular South End neighborhood.

The company confirmed the news on Friday morning.

There had been speculation for several months that a Shake Shack was in the works for the former Pike's Soda Shop location. Just last month, owners of Pike's announced they will be soon moving to a Myers Park location, citing a lack of parking in the area as their reason for moving.

Shake Shack officials confirmed Friday that they will indeed be moving into the same block. They are planning on a 3,500 square foot restaurant with around 65 full-time and part-time employees.

Officials say it will be the final phase of a redevelopment of South End's Design District, and will be part of a larger, 330,000 square-foot retail space.

The new Shake Shack will open in mid-2020.
