CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- A teen was killed in north Charlotte Wednesday morning just as he was about to get ready for school.

  • Police say they need the public's help
  • Jayvon Goolsby, 16, was shot and killed
  • We're told his mother and sister found him

Just before 6 a.m. Wednesday, someone outside a house on Ohaus Court shot inside the house with eight people inside.

“We don’t believe it to be random. It’s obvious to us that, that particular house was targeted,” Major Allan Rutledge with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department said.

Brenda Taylor was inside the house and said she dove for cover when she heard gunshots. Her 16-year-old nephew, Jayvon Goolsby, was shot and killed.

“The bullet hit him in the head and he died. It’s just crazy,” Brenda Taylor, the victim’s aunt, said.

She says that Jayvon’s mother and sister found him. Police believe someone has information about the shooting that could help them find the killer.

“We are frustrated with the number of shooting incidents we’ve had. We would certainly encourage the public’s help,” Rutledge said.
