Sheldon was a six-year veteran and was performing a traffic stop when he was shot and killed. Over the last few days, hundreds of flowers, signs, and cards have piled up around a Mooresville police car outside of police headquarters, placed there by people who both knew the officer and those who just want to comfort the department. Friends say he was a good person.
Following the funeral, City of Davidson encouraged people to gather at the Griffith Street overpass at 1 p.m. to honor Sheldon.
After the services, he was escorted back to Mooresville by a public safety vehicle.
