CHARLOTTE, N.C. – There are now thousands of people calling for the University of Charlotte to name their new recreation center after the victims of Tuesday’s shooting.

• Thousands of people have signed an online petition asking UNCC to name their new rec center after Riley Howell and Ellis Parlier.
• Both young men died during the shooting at UNCC Tuesday.
• Howell is being hailed as a hero for attempting to stop the shooter. 

More than 24,000 people have already signed a petition to name the building, which is currently under construction, after Riley Howell and Ellis Parlier.

The petition has a goal set at 25,000 signatures, which it will likely hit by the end of the day Friday.
