CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Severe weather including multiple tornado warnings popped up in areas of western North Carolina Friday afternoon.

A tornado watch had been in effect for Charlotte and surrounding counties until 8 p.m., but was allowed to expire then.

Many areas surrounding Charlotte saw strong winds, bringing down trees and causing damage.

A gusty storm remains possible overnight, but severe storms and tornadoes are less likely now.

We will improve overnight and Saturday with a few showers and a cool down, but no severe weather. And we will have plenty of sunshine to enjoy for Easter Sunday.
