CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- R&B singer and Charlotte native Anthony Hamilton received the Board of County Commissioners' highest honor, the Order of the Hornet award, on Tuesday night.
- He was recognized for his positive impact in the community
- Hamilton says success is more than just being famous and receiving awards
- Hamilton volunteers with several non-profits in Charlotte
The award recognizes people "who have displayed valor or high order of service uniquely and specifically to the citizens of Mecklenburg County."
Hamilton says success is more than just being famous and receiving awards.
"I want them to learn that success isn't about being seen on TV. Success is not about winning a Grammy. Success is about being your best you, completing the things you have to do to get yourself to the next level. Success is loving yourself and loving yourself enough to go out and spread that love. Success is about being an individual, not being a follower to things that could be of your demise," Hamilton said.

He says he vows to never forget his roots and likes to focus his efforts on health, hunger, homelessness, and education.
