- A student in Stanly County has died from meningitis.
- Fifteen-year-old Jaden Misenheimer initially had strep throat that wasn't getting better.
- His family says he was a cancer survivor whose immune system was still weak.
Jaden Misenheimer, 15, went to South Stanly High School. School officials say the health department was contacted and no preventative measures need to be taken by the school, but they will be sending students home with information on bacterial meningitis.
Misenheimer was diagnosed with strep throat, but wasn't getting better, and later diagnosed with meningitis.
His family says he was a cancer survivor whose immune system was still weak. School officials believe this was a single occurrence of the disease, but encouraged parents to call the school nurse if they have questions.
