CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The Mecklenburg County Republican Party met Saturday for their 2019 convention.

They elected new officers and discussed the current state of the party. Several district nine special election candidates were also there to ask for support. One candidate, Chris Anglin, was barred from the convention by state leadership due to a previous registration as a Democrat. Anglin posted a video on Twitter, saying the GOP would not let him in because of his constitutionally conservative stance.
"He will not be allowed to access any GOP data, information, or infrastructure." chairman Robin Hayes said.
Chairman Chris Turner says they're aligning themselves with the state until they can do further vetting.
“We’re going to go through the process of selecting the best candidate and then the party, just like today for our county elections, is going to be united behind that candidate,” he said.
