BOONE, N.C. -- Rain, sleet, freezing rain, and even patches of snow have been affecting the mountains through Saturday night, into Sunday morning.
- Officials with the Boone Fire Department say snow is not the issue they are worried about, but rather ice
- Officials are encouraging people to stay in if they don't have to go out
- The DOT had 14 trucks on the road and 12 additional contractors ready and waiting
Officials with the Boone Fire Department say snow is not the issue they are worried about, but rather ice.
"The snow we can deal with easily. We do that all the time. The ice is a little more precarious but we are ready," said Battalion Chief, Travis Spencer.
“There is no reason to come out with the weather like that. Your putting your life at risk, other peoples lives at risk, and our lives, if you get out and try to mess around in it,” said Spencer.
Main roads were cleared Saturday but some backroads were covered in snow.
The DOT had 14 trucks on the road and 12 additional contractors ready and waiting.
