YORK COUNTY, S.C. -- A memorial to fallen detective Mike Doty now sits outside the York County Law Enforcement Center.
- Doty died responding to a shooting earlier this year
- An Eagle Scout said he wanted honor the officer in a different way
- The memorial was unveiled Friday
It was unveiled Friday and the idea came from a local Eagle Scout who worked with law enforcement. The memorial features a stone with a bible verse, the York County Sheriff's Office symbol, and plaque with Doty's name on it. Doty was shot and killed while responding to a shooting incident.
"Instead of just doing something like a park bench or something like that. I wanted something that will impact somebody. It's kind of like a monument in a way," Eagle Scout Jared Collins said.
Before the memorial, the sheriff's office did not have a place to remember fallen law enforcement officers.
