NORTH CAROLINA -- What probably started out as a well-gestured tweet, ended up lightening the tense mood in the NCPOL section of Twitter this week.

In a response to a tweet sent by the Executive Director of the North Carolina Republican Party, Dallas Woodhouse, Democratic Communications Director, Andrew Bates, offered Woodhouse a Chili's giftcard if he would "make it to Christmas without repeating calls for rewarding election fraud." 

 

 

This comes after Republicans and Democrats have agreed that a new election may be necessary in Congressional District 9 if it's determined by the State Board of Elections that illegal activity happened ahead of election day, when Mark Harris was declared the winner 
 
However, Woodhouse and other Republicans believe that Harris should be seated ahead of the investigation finishing, arguing that District 9 will be left unrepresented for a period of time otherwise. 
 
 
But what no one saw coming was popular restaurant chain, Chili's throwing in their two cents. 
 
 
What clearly started as a light-hearted gesture aimed to engage potential customers wound up bringing light-hearted banter to #NCPOL for the first time in recent memory.
 
 
 
 
 
The company did come back and say they were not trying to get political, however, the icing on the Molten Lava Cake came a short time later when Harris's opponent, Dan McCready, tweeted this:
