FAITH, N.C. -- As funeral preparations are coming together for President Bush, residents of Faith, North Carolina, are taking time to remember his historic visit to their small town.
- The 41st president made a stop at their annual Fourth of July celebration
- Former mayor Judy Hampton was the first family's host for the day
- She says the president jumped right into the festivities, even playing a game of softball
During his campaign in 1992, the 41st president made a stop at their annual Fourth of July celebration.
Former mayor Judy Hampton was the first family's host for the day.
She says the president jumped right into the festivities, even playing a game of softball.
However, what she remembers most is how kind and down to earth he was, a lasting impression even 26 years later.
President Bush and his wife, Barbara were only in town for a few hours. Hampton also says he got a taste of North Carolina Barbecue and, of course Cheerwine, to wash it down.
