JOHNSTON COUNTY, N.C. – Information surrounding a horrific crash that left three people dead on I-40 in Johnston County Wednesday is continuing to come in.

  • 911 calls have been released in a deadly crash on I-40 from Wednesday.
  • Caller says many people got out of their cars to help the injured.
  • Three people died as a result of the crash

Newly released 911 calls describe the moments after the fiery crash occurred. A caller told a 911 operator that, after multiple cars collided with one another, several good Samaritans got out of their cars on the interstate to help the injured.

 

 

 Three people died in the crash, including 64-year-old Michael Peters of Youngsville.

The two other identities have not yet been released pending confirmation from the State Medical Examiner’s Office.

Authorities say a total of nine cars, one tractor-trailer, and a flatbed were involved in the accident.

 

 

 William Van Oneal, 61, of Garner, the driver of the flatbed, has been charged with causing the accident.

He has been charged with three counts of misdemeanor death.
