GASTONIA, N.C. -- A detox center for people fighting addiction will open next month in Gastonia.

  • This will be the first standalone private detox center in NC
  • It will house 16 people
  • The center will offer counseling, 24/7 medical monitoring and medication consultation

The Freedom Detox Center says it's the first standalone private detox center in North Carolina.

They use medication to strip drugs and alcohol out of a person's system.

It will house 16 people for five to seven days offering counseling, 24/7 medical monitoring and medication consultation.

"We wanted to create an environment, it's like home. I want them to feel like they want to stay here even though I've got to get them in the next step of recovery," said Brad Wilkerson, Freedom Detox director of business development.

Despite the center's location in Gastonia, the facility accepts people from all over.

It also accepts patients for numerous addictions including heroin, alcohol and methamphetamine.

It will officially open in the next few weeks.
