NORTH CAROLINA -- Visitors to Chimney Rock State Park are likely to come across an unwelcoming sign due to last week's storms and flooding.

  • Two landslides caused significant damage to the park
  • Park officials say they are hoping to open the park in the next week
  • Portion of entrance road collapsed into water

Two landslides caused significant damage to the park, and floodwaters also damaged several trails.

One landslide occurred in the upper parking area, just feet from where one happened back in October, an area that has still not been repaired.

A portion of the road to enter the park also managed to collapse into the water.

Park officials say they are hoping to open the park in the next week or so but won't know for sure until engineers can figure out how to repair all the damage.
