CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- With the Queen City celebrating 250 years in 2018, The Charlotte Museum of History is highlighting our namesake royalty.

Author Dr. Stephanie Myers spoke in town this weekend, presenting a lecture on her book "Invisible Queen." Myers said there are a few facts about Queen Sophia Charlotte we might not know.

The royal was fascinated with the sciences, spoke many languages, and was an abolitionist in a movement that later helped end the Trans-Atlantic slave trade.

"She had mixed-race heritage, so she knew her matrilineal geneology gave her a stand on both sides of the equation. Just like in America today we have people that come from all kinds of diverse backgrounds,” said Myers.
