A cold front moving in late Friday into Saturday morning will bring a period of wet weather back across the region for the start of the weekend, where the High Country could see the reappearance of some snowflakes.
Friday will be off to a nice, mainly sunny start before clouds gradually increase from the west throughout the course of the day. With southwesterly flow back in place, temperatures should be nearly 10 degrees warmer than Thursday's, with highs expected to top off in the upper 60s to mid 70s across the Piedmont and upper 50s in the mountains. We should stay dry during the day with the exception being the mountains, where they could be looking at some showers as early as late this afternoon and early this evening.
A cold front moving through Friday night will bring first bring rain into the mountains before it spreads into the northwest Piedmont by the late evening and overnight hours. The chance for showers will continue ramp up across the Piedmont into Saturday before rain eventually ends by Saturday night. Cooler air filtering in on the backside of this system could lead to a brief transition to snow showers in the mountains late Saturday afternoon before moisture clears to the east of the area (little to no accumulation is expected). Piedmont locations north of I-40 may even see some sloppy, wet snowflakes mixed in at times by Saturday night!
High pressure building back in Sunday will lead to quickly drying conditions. Sunshine will make a nice return but temperatures will be below average, with highs only expected to top off in the 50s to low 60s and 40s in the mountains.
